Weather Update for Colorado Springs
Residents of Colorado Springs are advised to prepare for hazy conditions brought on by wildfires raging across the Four Corners region. The smoke is expected to settle into the area more prominently on Friday due to a high-pressure system located over Arizona and Mexico, according to KOAA Meteorologist Alan Rose.
Rose indicates that the concentration of smoke will peak in the afternoon and evening hours, with some clearing expected by daybreak on Saturday. For today, Colorado Springs is forecasted to reach a high of 82 degrees Fahrenheit.
Thunderstorms in the Forecast
In addition to the hazy conditions, the meteorologist noted that the high-pressure system will also bring added moisture and energy to the region, potentially leading to scattered showers and thunderstorms later in the day. Storms are predicted to initiate in the mountains around lunchtime, with rainfall chances increasing along Interstate 25 between 1 PM and 3 PM. Residents can brace for the possibility of heavy rainfall similar to what was experienced on Thursday, which may result in localized flooding across southern Colorado.
Date | Conditions | High Temp (°F) | Chance of Rain |
---|---|---|---|
Friday | Hazy with thunderstorms | 82 | 40% |
Saturday | Partly sunny, thunderstorms | 86 | 40% |
Sunday | Sunny | 88 | 10% |
Upcoming Weather
As the weekend progresses, Saturday is expected to be even warmer, with highs reaching the mid-80s. Showers and thunderstorms may develop, particularly in the first half of the day, while conditions will become drier by Sunday. The forecast suggests Colorado Springs will see a high temperature of approximately 87 degrees on Sunday, alongside drier air. However, strong to severe thunderstorms could still occur in the eastern plains.
Looking ahead to the week, the weather will shift from a stormy backdrop to a hotter pattern, potentially pushing temperatures into the 90s for most of the first week of August. As meteorologist Rose points out, high pressure moving into the desert southwest will be responsible for this change.
